Dr. List's work focuses on important mechanisms of cell defense and survival in AML and MDS. His research has identified and continues to investigate novel approaches to overcome pleotropic chemotherapy resistance in AML using pharmacologic inhibitors of survival signals and the multidrug transporter P-glycoprotein. Dr. List's team described the importance of angiogenic molecules in the potentiation of ineffective hematopoiesis in MDS and promotion of AML transformation. These investigations led to the successful clinical development of CC5013 and other agents for this disease. Dr. List and his colleagues have identified negative regulators of cytokine receptor signal transduction called suppressors of cytokine signaling (SOCS) which may have an important role in ineffective hematopoiesis in MDS and unrestrained proliferation in AML. The principal objective of his investigations is to advance our understanding of the biology of these diseases so that more effective treatment strategies can be developed.
